Job Interview at Public Location

Has anyone ever been asked to meet for a job interview at a public location, such as a coffee shop or cafe? I'm not referring to lunch or dinner interviews at restaurants, but interviews where you're asked to meet at places like Starbucks or Caribou. Is there anything in particular or different that stands out about these locations for interviews as opposed to corporate offices (i.e. is it okay to arrive early and buy your own drink or is it polite to let the interviewer chose the booth location, etc?) I'm assuming formal dress still applies.

Depends on what type of job and how large the company. People like coffee, so these places are good for that. They normally have computer access, and it is reasonably quiet. Clean table, not much food.
A large company won't be asking you this, but a one person or 2 person operation might.

Honestly? I don't think it ever hurts to dress and groom appropriately during any job interview. Researching the company, giving good reasons why you should be the one to work there, and giving reasons why you want to are just as important also. I'm not sure about the particular protocol, but being professional, courtius and straight-forward never hurts.
